Lori was starting at a new school this year. She and her family had moved to Chicago during the summer. her parents got a great job. Although she was excited, she was also nervous. She didn’t know anyone at her new school, and she was worried about making friends.
On the first day, Lori walked into the school building with her new book bag. She found her locker and took a deep breath before heading to her first class. The teacher, Mr. Moore, was kind and introduced her to the class. She sat down next to a girl named Sophie, who smiled and asked Lori if she was new.
Throughout the day, Lori met more students and teachers. At lunchtime, Sophie invited her to sit with her group of friends. They asked her about where she had moved from and what she liked to do. Lori was happy to find that they had a lot in common. They liked the same books and TV shows, and one of the girls was even in the same dance class as Lori.
After school, Lori walked home feeling much better than she had that morning. She realized that making friends wasn’t as hard as she thought. Over the next few weeks, Lori became close with Sophie and her group, and she quickly settled into her new school routine.
By the end of the first month, Lori felt completely comfortable in her new school. She was doing well in her classes, and she had joined the school dance team. She still missed her old friends, but she was happy that her new school was starting to feel like home.
