La tomatina

La Tomatina is a famous festival celebrated in Buñol, a small town near Valencia, Spain. This festival takes place on the last Wednesday of August and attracts thousands of people from all over the world.

The tradition of La Tomatina began in 1945 when a group of young people decided to throw tomatoes at each other in the middle of the town square. Since then, it has become an annual event that draws tourists from far and wide.

The festivities start early in the morning, with trucks loaded with tomatoes arriving at the main square. At 11 in the morning, La Tomatina officially begins with the throwing of the first tomato.

For about an hour, the square turns into a sea of crushed tomatoes as participants have fun hurling tomatoes at each other. Once it’s over, the streets are covered in tomato pulp, and participants head to public showers to clean up.

La Tomatina is a unique experience filled with fun and camaraderie. Although it can be a bit chaotic, it’s a celebration that leaves unforgettable memories for all who take part in it.
