The Forgotten Homework

Lily always did her homework on time. She was a good student and liked keeping everything organized. But one Monday morning, she realized she had forgotten to do her history homework over the weekend. She had been so busy with soccer practice and her cousin’s birthday party that she completely forgot about the assignment.

Panicking, Lily grabbed her history book and tried to complete the work on the bus ride to school. But it was too complicated, and she didn’t have enough time. By the time she got to class, she still hadn’t finished it.

When her teacher, Mrs. Carter, asked for the homework, Lily felt nervous. She didn’t want to get in trouble, but she also didn’t want to lie. She raised her hand and told Mrs. Carter that she had forgotten to do the homework.

Mrs. Carter looked surprised. «Lily, you’re always so responsible,» she said. «What happened?»

Lily explained about her busy weekend and how she had tried to finish the work on the way to school. Mrs. Carter listened and then said, «Thank you for being honest, Lily. I understand that sometimes things get busy. You can turn in the homework tomorrow, but try to manage your time better next time.»

Lily felt relieved. She promised herself that she would never let that happen again. From that day on, she made sure to check her assignments every weekend to avoid forgetting anything. She learned an important lesson about being organized and responsible.
